This summer brings some exciting events and goings on in our community. I wanted to take a moment share some of the details with you. 
 
Long Term Neighborhood Planning
Our communities are going through an extensive long term planning process, one for the International District (Councilor Garduno area) and the East Central Gateway (Councilor Harris area). This is a critical process that will determine how funds are spent in our neighborhoods and our input is welcome:

Upcoming Community Events
ˇ         Aug 3, Annual National Night Out: a wonderful tradition of fun and community in our district, multiple neighborhood associations will be holding block parties or events where neighbors can come together with law enforcement for safer and healthier communities.  
o   La Mesa: will be a potluck starting at 6:00 pm at Mesa Verde Community Center
o   South San Pedro and Elder Homestead: 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM at Wilson Park, Anderson and San Pedro SE, Live music, Car and Bike show, and good food!
o   East Central/Manzano Mesa Area: ABQ’s finest will host the community on Aug 4 to celebrate with food and festivities, 6pm 12800 Lomas N.E., 87112 (505) 332-5240
o   Trumbull Village: will have a celebration in late Sept or October
o   Others: contact your local HOA or Neighborhood Association
 
ˇ         Sept 18th, Second Annual ABQ International District Festival: International Festival is to promote the local economy through demonstrations, products and services. Local businesses, health providers, civic organizations, government agencies, City and County programs, will be on-site to inform the public about business and community resources that are available. Entertainment will be provided by many international troupes and there will be a fun-filled children’s activities center.
o   Date: Saturday, September 18, 2010
o   Time: 10:00am - 5:00pm
o   Location: Talin Market Parking Lot - Louisiana and Central
 
ˇ         Monthly: The International District Healthy Communities is a Coalition of people who believe that by caring for ourselves and others we improve the health of those who live, work, play, learn, and love in Southeast Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico. We want to create social, economic, and physical environments that support health and make healthy choices easy choices. Lastly, if you are interested in volunteering a few hours a month, my small office (all volunteers already) would welcome some assistance with constituent services, communications and office work, website etc.
